His education and training have focused on sports medicine, trauma, and advanced foot and ankle reconstruction. At Shasta Orthopaedics, Dr. Messerly was immersed in high-volume ankle arthroscopy, advanced reconstruction, total ankle replacement (primary and revision), and minimally invasive surgery. Dr. Messerly has authored several publications, as well. His particular interests are in total ankle replacement, lateral ankle pathology, and bunion surgery. Dr. Messerly treats all disorders of the lower extremity with both nonoperative and operative options.
Dr. Messerly is originally from northern Nevada. He completed his undergraduate degree in exercise physiology from the University of Utah. He completed medical school in Des Moines, IA, at Des Moines University. His surgical residency was completed in St. Paul, MN, at Regions Hospital. After residency, he went on to complete a one-year highly regarded foot and ankle fellowship under the directorship of Jason Nowak DPM, FACFAS.
Dr. Messerly is happily married and has three sons: Grant (5), Connor (3), and Calvin (2 months). When he is not working, you can find him chasing his kids around, smoking meat, watching college football, working out, or being outdoors. He is excited to provide care to the people of Northern Virginia.
